SCARCITY OF WHEAT.

In explaining the Wheat Bill, Mr Hall says the Government does not propose to purchase every bushel'of wheat grown, but offers 5s a bushel to farmers desiring to sell in the event of the market failing. He holds no responsibility to recoup a farmer holding stocks. A farmer is not allowed to sell elsewhere.
Adelaide Dec. 2. The pre-harvest wheat estimate is 4,666,476 bushels. Melbourne, Deo. 2.
The action of the Legislature iu repealing fixed prices has caused confusion in the , wheat market. The Government is condemned for fixing prices, hut lacking courage to commandeer wheat, and as soon as the elections were over lifting the bar to free sales. Many operators were caught short for The Government now proposes to import. To do this-it must induce the Federal Government to remove the dutv.
Ottawa, Dec. 2
Mr Foster recently purchased and forwarded 250,000 bushels of wheat to New Zealand. An additional 140,000 bushels have been purchased, and will shortly be shipped. Christchurch, Deo. 2.
Mr Aoland, the Reform candidate for Avon, suggested this evening that the Government, in addition to purchasing wheat in Australia and Canada, might borrow sufficient wheat from Australia pending the harvesting of our own crop, and return a quantity to them when the crop is reaped. This would smash any possible scheme of the millers to exploit the public by holding for a big rise in thenext lew weeks.
