GRAND NATIONAL MEETING

The following is a description of how the Grand National Steeplechase was run:—Running to the first fence Jackman bad assumed the lead with Tim Doolan following, while Fond Memory baulked, and lost his rider. Going past the stand the first time Jackman was in front, with True Blue, Captain Jack, Bercbla, Kauroa, Sportsman and The Spaniard next, with The Chief last. At Cutt’s, Jackman had a substantial lead from True Blue, with Captain Jack in third position, followed by Kauroa and Tim Doolan. Running down the back Jackman had increased his lead, with True Blue still second, and the field well strung out. At tne Kennels doable Jackman was well in the lead, but Captain' Jack and True Blue were closing on tne leader. The field was jumping beautifully. Coming into the straight Jackman still held command. but the gap was considerably reduced, and at the stand he had Glenmore, Kauroa and Captain Jack following. Sportsman, who had been going very well, lost his rider at Cutt’s, and the order was Jackman, The Spaniard, Glenmore and Captain Jack. At the sod wall Jackman came to grief, and Tim Doolan closed on The Spaniard, while Bercola was just heading Captain Jack and Kauroa, with Glenmore at the head of tne rest. The Spaniard and Tim Doolan were first into the straight, and jumped the last two. fences well. Tim Doolan had too much pace, however, and won easily by four lengths from Bercqla, who beat The Spaniard in the run home by six lengths. Glenmore was two lengths away fourth, followed 1 y Kauroa, The Chief, True Blue and Captain Jack. A. J. McFlynn rode four winners —The Pole, 'Admiral Soult, Tim Doolan and The Stroller —and F. McCabe (Morecambe), W. Bell (Encore), and B. Deeley (Chortle) one each
