FIRST TEST MATCH. A WIN FOR AUSTRALIA. Per Press Association. Danedin, March 9. The first test match between Anstra lia and New Zealand was concluded to-day, the visitors winning by seven wickets. The weather was perfect and the ground was in good condition. New Zealand, who were in a minority of 126 'on the first innings, and who made 4 for no wickets on Saturday, continued the second innings, which yielded 209 runs. Patrick 65, Whitfea 58, Sand man 30 and Oondliffe 28 did the bnlk of the scoring. After the first two wickets went down the batsmen shaped badly, and at one time it looked as if the home team would be unable to avert the innings de feat. Sandman and Patrick became associated when things looked bad, and by bright and confident cricket they put on 96 runs between them. Australia required 84 runs to win. Three of their wickets fell for 31 runs, but Cody and Waddy set up a solid partnership, and by steady play made the required number of runs.
