GOVERNMENT LYMPH,
Wellington, September 4. Regarding the reported failures of vaccination with Government lymph, the Minister of Public Health states that a comprehensive return by the Government Bacteriologist shows that of nineteen separate vaccine supplies issued by him in July, 1913, the only ones issued, he has returns to indicate that in the case of sixteen of the«e not only have successful results been obtained, but the amount of success attained has been up to 100 cent., while for the other three of the nineteen the percentage of successes were 91 per cent., 88 per cent., and 80 per cent In six districts one certain lymph was used. Five districts reported obtaining 100 per cent successes. Some other cause outside the vaccine and its methods such as (1) Defects in the technique of the vaccinator, (3) neglect of care of-lymph by vaccinator; (8) conditions unfavourable to lymph in transit to vaccinators; (4) interference by vaocinees, and (5) immunity due to previous exposure of the vaoeinee to cows infected with cowpox or acquired from previous vaccination or smallpox, must be ascertained to account for the reported inefficiency of vaccinations with Government lymph.
