At the Trade Union Congress at Manchester Mr Clynes, MP., demanded an inquiry into the conduct of the police during the china clay workers’ strike at Cornwall with a view to punishing the offenders. He declared that the importation of police for the purpose of repressing strikes was becoming unhappily common. The police authorities axe in danger of losing the confidence of the massess, and if ‘repeated attacks on organised labour are made their power will soon vanish.
