S MARTON SPRING MEETING,

As the weather has now settled, everything tends to having a record meeting at Marton to-morrow. A large crowd of visitors have put in an appearance, and accommodation is taxed to its utmost. The course looks in splendid order and the going is bound 2o be good, Barge fields will-be the order of the day, as nearly all the visiting horses have arrived.

Racing starts with, the Hack Hurdles, in which 18 have paid up. The two top weights-- Sampan and Rill—seem to he well treated, and are bound to be well supported. A field of eighteen have accepted in the Maiden Plate, and some ‘very fast three-year-olds are engaged, including Bonny Helen, Barg and Adelicia.

The Kailway Handicap always proves a very exciting race, and another large field is engaged. Kauiki and Altoar have been running well of late, the former having won a double at Wellington recently. They should both be very prominent. A vary popular race amongst sports in Rangitikei ia the Hunt Cup, a steeplechase of about three miles. A field of sixteen have cried content, and a very interesting race should result. Uua, who ran third in this race last year, heads the list. Several good jumpers are engaged, including Lady Bibbero, Pukeroa, Ingenkeuder and Adclnought. The two latter were winners at the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Meeting. The big race—the Marton Handicap—has a field of fourteen engaged, Bronze holding pride of place. Others chat seem to be well forward are Ceylon, Royal Arms and Byron. Otahu is reported to be in great fettle, and should prove the best of the light weights. However, the race bears an open appearance and punters should have a hard task to sort out the winner.

The biggest field of the day should go to the post In the E'ectric Handicap, in which 23 have accepted. Some very speedy ones are engaged, amongst them being Tree Lucerne. Lord Lupin, Lady Louisa, Powder Fox and Ainsdale. Another interesting race should result. The Hack Steeplechase, anothervery popular event, has a field of 15 engaged, and probably the lot will face the starter. Grit Lawless, who paid a sensational dividend at Wellington Meeting, heads the list. Windage has been showing a glimpse of his old form of late, and a win for him is about due. Other good jumpers engaged are- Supreme, Rufus, Master Webb and Siola. "*The Tntaueui Hack Welter, with a field of 14 engaged, completes the programme, and in this race some very good ones are engaged. Toney heads the list and at Otaki just recently he showed he could gallop fast by running third in the two principal events. Sweet Zinnia, St. Serf, Yankee Doodle and Styrax are expected to run prominently.

TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS

A passenger train will leave Taihape at 8 a.m,, Utikn at 8,16 a.m., Mangaweka at 8.48 a m., Ohingaiti at 9 5, Hunteiville at 9 50, arriving at Marton at 10.45 a.m. The return train will leave Marton at 7.10 p.m. Trains will leave Palmerston at 7.10 a.m. and 9.50 a.m., Feilding at 7.55 and 10,83 a.m., Halcombe 8.38 and 10 54 a.m., Greatford 8.55 and 11.14 a.m., arriving at Marton at 9.7 and 11.38 a.m. Return trains will leave at 5.80 and 7 p.m. Trains will leave Wanganui at 7 and 8.15 a.m, Aramoho at 7.13 and 8.28 a.m., Fordell at 7.50 and 9.13 a.m , Tnrakina at 8.80 and 10 a.m., arriving at Marton at 9.13 and 10.40 a= m. Return trains will leave at 5.30 and 6 53 p.m.
