SMALLPOX.
United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. Received July 9, i p.m. Sydney, July 9. It looks as if the precautions to restrict smallpox to Sydney area are unavailing. Three suspicious cases have been reported in three separate country centres The authorities anticipate that it will spread, but there is no increase in virulence. .So far 23,000 have been vaccinated, including the Lord Mayor and many members of-Parliament. The staffs of business firms are being vaccinated wholesale Dr. Paton on the strength of a New Zealand wire is of opinion that epidemic among the Maoris is similar to the outbreak in Sydney. He-would not be surprised to hear that a similar epidemic had obtained a footing in other States though the strictest precautions are being taken there. All mail matter is being fumigated The restrictions are causing a great faHJng off in inter-State traffic.
