United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Sydney, July 7. There are 38 patients in hospital at the quarantine station, none serious. Sixty-aevea are convalescent, and the contacts are also detained there. Vaccinating is proceeding apace, and 9500 have been treated. The health authorities estimate that (5000 have also been vaccinated privately. Sydney, July 7. The smallpox has been definitely traced to the arrival on April 12th of a steward aboard the steamer Zealanpia, who unknown to himself was suffering from the disease contracted probably at Vancouver. During his sojourn at Sydney he was frequently in company with a lady friend employed at the clothing factory. Soon after the vessel’s departure the lady became ill.
