WANGANUI PRESBYTERY.
A meeting of the Presbytery was held at Marton on Wednesday morning, Rev. X A. McKenzie (Shannon) acting Moderator, presiding. There were also present:' Ksrs. A. Porter, D. Calder, P. B. Prater, A. Doull, J. D. McKenzie, J. Maokie, J. B. Hall, R. H. Catherwood. and E. C. Evans, Dr. Kirk, and Messrs R. B. McKeuize, Oaird, R. E. McKenzie, A. Thompson, P. Sinclair, J. Lambert, R. Keif (Home Missionary at Apiti), P. Haase and R. J. Thompson.
The Moderator extended a hearty welcome to Dr. Kirk of the Canton Villages Mission. Dr. Kirk returned thanks for the welcome he had received and said nothing gave him greater pleasure than in meeting the Presbyteries, of which he was a factor in distant lands working for the good of the people. Rev. P. B. Fraser, superintendent of Home Missions, introduced Mr Relf, of Apiti, to whom was extended a hearty welcome. Rev. Doull stated that he had met Mr MaCuliy on his return trip, and that he had considerably improved in health. It was deckled to retain the section at Pipiriki for church purposes, and the Presbytery recognised Mr Moore’s work in that district.
Revs. Doull, Porter ami Messrs R. B. McKenzie and G. Bndd were appointed a committee to consider the advisability of setting np a new Home Mission station north of Wanganui. Rev. Doull reported on his visit to the Territorial Camp at Oriugi, and stated that he was m camp from May sth to 17th. The weather was wretched, and the marquee was used by the men day and night. The conduct of the men on the whole was good.—The Presbytery received the report, and congratulated the chaplain on the good work that lie had accomplished during the camp. A letter from Dr. Gibb in reference to the ordination of Homa Missions was received, and the clerk was instructed to draw the attention ot ministers to the new regulations of the Home Missions. Revs. Porter and Doull reported on their visit to Rewa, and the Presbytery passed a resolution congratulating the congregation and the Home Missionary on the report presented. Rev. E. G. Evans reported on the visitation to Taihapa. During the year, in which Mr Gather wood had been settled, the church had made a great move forward, and the Rev. Caterwood’a work, both in the pulpit and the homes of the people, was largely responsible foi this, The report was received, and the Rev. .). I). McKenzie was appointed to read the deliverance to the people on a convenient date. A call from the congregation at Maugaweka to the Rev. John MoCaw was laid on the table and supportßd|by the Rev. A. Porter and Messrs McDonald and Caird commissioners from Maugaweka. The call was found to be fully and regularly signed, and to have come with the heartiest desires of the people. It was resolved that the call bo sustained and forwarded to the Presbytery of Hawke’s Bay. Plans for a new church at Terraco End, Palmerston North, were approved by the Presbytery. The Rev. A. Doull reported that b.ifi church committee I urn purchased an acre section at Kelvin Grove for church purposes. A largo amount of other routine business was transacted, and the Presbytery adjourned to meet again at Minton, on August 12th, i whereof intimation having boon made the meeting closed with prayer.
