CAN IT BE DONE? . ( ■ The average house wif» ia greatly worried, in these days of high prices, over the increased cost of living. The grocer's and the bmtoher's bills grow bigger each and the youngsters' clothes seem to wear ont sooner, and certainly cost more eaoh time they hare to be renewed. The editor of Every lady's 'Journal —the popular Australasian magazine for women—has begun a campaign to help his readers to cut the cost of living without whittling down 'pleasure or comfort. In the May issue before us some most praetioal and helpful aticles along this lin.e appear: "Shortcuts to Good Housekeeping," the New Oroohet Patterns, with beautiful designs; "To Make an Evening Gowm at Home," a complete lesson for amateurs; "Economical Ways in Fancy work" ; "Housekeepers'Problems" ; "Making Money by Raffia Work"; and a splendid Cookery Series. The editor of Everylady's Journal promises, in future issues, a complete and new aeries of articles on "Gutting the Cost of Living," and he has commissioned a well known Australian woman journalist to plam and write the series. In addition to the numerous practical features in Everylady's Journal for May. there are many pages of fashions, a number of splendid illustrated articles and stories, and five free paterns are enolosed with eaoh issue. Certainly this magazine for komemaking women continues to give excellent value for sixpence, and should be welcomed in every home in which this paper is read.
