Messrs Smith and Hill are also progressing satisfactorily with their metalling contract on Green Road and should the fin© weather continue they will hare their Work completed in about ten days’ time. The whole of the work in connection with the concrete culvert over the Main Drain and other small culverts have been completed. w hile dealing with the question of roads in the Kopane Estate, I think it would be advisable in terms of agreement for the Council to call on Mra Johnston to survey the road from the Green Road to the Oroua River and have the gravel reserve allocated. When considering the estimates for the present year it will be necessary to make provision for replacing the old wooden bridge over Johnston’s drain on Rongotea Road in concerte. Cost of bridge £l©o. Mr Maliett shonid be requested to proceed with his metalling contract on Jones’ Line. Kawakawa Riding.—ln conjunction with Councillor Gray I let a contract for delivering 800 cubic yards of metal on the Taikorea Road to Mr T. Lucas for the sum of 6s a yard. Mr Lucas is now delivering metal on Oouper’s Line and will commence almost straight away with the o Taikorea Road. An old wooden bridge on Oouper’s Line should be replaced with better material and made wider. Cost of new bridge £4O There is also another bridge on this road which could he very well replaced with an 18-inch pipe culvert. Cost of culvert £9. Carnarvon Riding.—l have let a contract in two sections to Messrs Boyle, Locke and Algar lor cleaning out tha Kaikokopn drains lor the sum of 6s per chain for the main outlet drain and 4s 6d per chain fox the drain leading from Simon’s Lake to Hammond’s Lake. I have also let the drain leading from the Taikorea Road into Simon’s Lake to J. O. Tankman for the sum of 4s per chain. Mr 0. Martin has completed his contract for supplying metal and clay on Rosina ‘Line and the regrading of Makowhai Hill on River Bank Line. Messrs Ehrhorn Bros, will comnlete their contract for cleaning out the Jordan Creek in a few days. Awahon Riding,—During the past month good progress has been made with metalling on Foxton-Shannon , road, and up to the present time we ' have spent approximately £650 on this road. If the Council intend to keep this road open for ordinary traffic during the winter months it will he necessary to close the road against heavy traffic. Tramway.—A large number of decayed sleepers have been taken cut during the past*month between the Taikorea and Whale Siding and replaced with silver pine. The linemen at the Sandon end have been employed stripping and packing the line with a few trucks of ballast near the Makowhai Siding. It was resolved —

That ranger be. instructed to impound all stock grazing on Waitohi Riding, and that matter of Sandon Riding be left in hands of Or. Phillips. That finger posts be erected at Lee’s Line and Stewart’s Line, That Mr Oonlan and others he granted free use of grader to form lower portion of Puke Puke Road as soon as opportunity offers. That ratepayers of Puke Puke Road be informed that if they will contribute £BO towards cost, Council will put in a siding at the junction of road. Work to be started when money has been paid in. The Treasurer, Mr A. K. Drew, reported on balances of various accounts as under: —General account dr, £1543 3s 6d, loan account cr. £252 12s Id, net debit balance £138'.) 11s sd.

The balance for the mouth was dr. £37 13s lid, but included in expenses are the following extra items; —Sleepers £39 3s, extra coal £35, brake blocks £8 7s Id. Repairs have had to be effected to the smoke box of loco Eaugitikei.
