BURGLARY BOOM AT SYDNEY,
United Press Association —By Eleatric Telegraph—Copyright Sydney, May T. After a desperate straggle, a burglar twice shot Mr Overton, the proprietor of the Tyne Lanndry, at Manly, and escaped. The condition -of Overton is serious. There' has been a recurrence of the burglary “boom” lately. There have been, freqnent and daring robberies in the city and suburbs. Mr Overton was awakened by a burglar in his bedroom. He grappled and bad a tierce tight with the intruder, who tired a revolver, wounding Mr Overton in the neck. In spite of the wound he continued the struggle. The burglar again fired, inflicting a wound in the stomach. Retaining his bold, he was dragged into the passage. The burglar then shook himself free, and escaped with £2O worth of jewellery. . At Rose Bay earlier in the night an armed and masked man terrorised and flocked up Alderman Kelly’s servants, and secured a qnanity of silverware. At Clyde two men stuck up the caretaker of Football Association gruonds and • appropriated all the cash on the premises. At Annandale, a burglar visited the home of a railway employee, absent at work, and forced his wife at the point of a revolver to accompany him while he searched.
