THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright Received March 7, 9 a.m. Rio Janeiro, March 6. The fire on the Turakina has ,been extinguished. THE CARGO. London, March 6. Underwriting interests in the Turakina arejjverjlhalf a million. Most of the vacancies in the first and second class were filled at Monte Video. Reinsurance fluctuated thirty per cent. It is hoped that at the worst there will be large salvage, Christchurch, March 6.

The Turakina took the following cargo from Lyttelton: —Wool 6070 bales, cheese 551 cases, butter 3638 boxes, hides 19 sacks, pelts 4 casks, skins 93, sundries 53 packages. The New Zealand Shipping Company, which owns the vessel, has been informed that the lire is in No. 3 hoid. This has two decks, one with a floor space of 69,030 cubic feet, and the other with 35,500 cubic feet. Messages received by the company state that the hold which contained batter has been destroyed, that the vessel has been beached, and that all the passengers are ashore. It is supposed that the reference in the Press Association message to the lire reaching the insulators deals with the refrigerating room which lies partly on top of the hoid in which the fire broke ont. Wellington, March 6. The cargo from Wellington includes the following for Loudon; — 4031 bales wool, 237 casks tallow, 119 casks pelts, 15 casks casings, 264 quarters beef, 6320 carcases lamb, 8838 carcases lamb, 12 carcases legs, 19,815 boxes butter, 18,884 eases cheese, 985 cases sell, 31 packages rubber, 110 sacks shell, 833 tins milk, 958 bales hemp, 48 bales tow, 55 packages general. The vessel also took 43 sheep and 60 packages general goods for Monte Video.
