OHAKEA NOTES.

\ From Our Own Correspondent. J A meeting of tne Ohakea Sports I Club Committee was held in the ! school house on |Thursday, when all bat two members were present, and I «i great deal of business was tran- ! eaoted in the form of revising the > programme, etc. The committee thought it advisable to alter the date on whioh the sports were to have been held on account of the < Easter holidays, and they have now finally decided to hold their third annual meeting on March 19th. [ The programme, which is a lengthy one, will appear in the Advocate next week. Donations and subscriptions are coming in freely. It will be seen when the programme appears that the prize money in the open j hunters' event has been increased, 60 that it now compares very favourable with older clubs. The committee are going to spare no effort in trying to make this year's gathering | e greater sucoess than the two pre- • vious. The next meeting is fixed ; for February 39th. Mr N. Henderson, our ever popular creamery manager, has left the district. He intends to reside on his farm up the Wanganui river. He will bejgr9atly[missed, as he always took a leading part in all that took place for the good of our district, and we all join in wishing him a most prosperous time in his new venture. I Several of our dairy farmers are t-ing a great deal of trouble ough cows not getting in calf. 5 vet has been paying a visit to 3* district to try to help them ' out of their trouble. I have heard ! : it freely expressed that tho time has come when thorough inspection of dairy herds should be made seeing that such numbers of cows are allowed to wander at large on the roads.
