United Press Association.—Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received January 14, 5) a. in. Melbourne, January 14. At tho Science Congress a discussion took place on the general problems of soil, fertility in Australia. Several papers on this subject were read. The general opinion was that particular fertilisers in Australia wore seldom worked out in cultivated land, and practically tire whole of what was nut used up by the crop remained as permanent additions to the soil within a nineinch surface. Received January 14, 1 p.m. Melbourne, January 14. At the Science Congress, Mr A. Richardson read_a paper on wheat improvement. He said the time is not far distant when wheat will be sold on grade like butter, fruit and other products. The production of drought-resisting varieties is a problem of peculiar importance to Australia.
