NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.

HOW IT IS HANDLED AT LONDON. MB W. D. LYSNAR INTERVIEWED. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright. Received January 11, 11 a.m. Sydney, January 11. Mr W. D. Lvsiiar, of Gisborne, has arrived. He visited England on behalf of the New Zealand Producers’ Association, to report on the handling of New Zealand frozen produce. He stated that London dock authorities acknowledged in 1910 that their system of distributing produce from the ship’s side at the Port of London was unsatisfactory, and promised reforms which the New Zealand Committee understood were to be made within eighteen months. , The reforms are still as far off as ever. The New Zealand Committee in 1913 specially requested that the South West India Docks should especially be equipped for New Zealand trade. The Port of London authorities were agreeable, but through the Loudon importers’ pressure the authorities decided to make tiie suggested improvements to Albert Victoria Dock instead ;of the South West India Dock. The Albert Dock is 10 miles lower down the Thames, necessitating New Zealand produce travelling the extra distance and being subjected to extra handling. The scheme does not relieve New Zealand’s main complaint, namely the wretched bargain system which is stifling our trade by first ruiniug the products and then increasing the cost to the consumer. He said wo intend to walk right away from Loudon and leave it quietly alone. It is impossible at this distance to force the Loudon authorities out of the old rut. We propose to form a new association of producers at London end which will receive and market our produce, thus ensuring tho'profits going to the producer and eliminating the grasping middleman us far as possible.
