THE PEACE CONFERENCE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. London, December 17. The Ambassadorial Conference opens to-day. A E enter message states that the delegates discussed the Turkish attitude towards Greece, and there is reason to believe that t> e difficulty created by the refusal to sign tiie armistice will be overcome. The Telegraph says there is a pessimistic feeling among the envoys. The question of questions is the Tnrko-Bulgarian frontier, whereon the Turks and Bulgarians are hopelessly at loggerheads, and the only hope is that the Powers can suggest a method of settling the difficulty. Received December 18, 11 a.m. fe London, December 17. The Peace Conference " has adjourned till Thursday to enable the Turks to receive authorisation to sit with the Qreess. The Ambassadors’ formal meeting has opened. A NAVAL ENGAGEMENT. Constantinople, December 17. The Turk and Greek squadrons had a two hours’ engagement at the entrance to the Dardanelles. The official accounts on both sides claim a victory. The Turks state that shots were exchanged from 8500 to 8000 yards. Three or four projectiles struck the Georgiosaveroff and silenced her heavy guns, but she later continued the battle after her consorts had retired, and then followed. The Greeks say the Turks sheltered behind the forts, but after an hour retired in disorder within the Dardanelles. Five men were slightly wounded, three on the Saveraoff. Athens, December 17. The passengers on a Russian steamer witnessed the engagement. They state that two Turkish ships were seriously damaged. THE PROCHASKA INCIDENT.
Vienna, December 17. Edl reports that the reported illtreatment at Prochaska was unfounded, and the Servian charges that shots were fired from the Consulate are untrue. Edl found that the Servians on several occasions adopted an incorrect attitude towards the Consulate for which satisfaction is demanded.
