A PERFECT ILLUSIONIST. /

THE GREAT JANSEN,

Such was the heading that appeared in a Sydney paper during Mr Jansen’s recent visit to the City of the Beautiful Harbour. The paper states: “All that was said of him in the Press prior to his opening, has been more than justified. He is a clever, gentlemanly performer, who uses but little ‘gag,’ trusting to his tricks to thoroughly interest his audience. Wherein he is wise. The whole show grips one, he is never tiresome, and one never feels even the slightest inclination to drop out and see a man about a dog. The applause was punctuated by outpsoken adjectives, such as marvellous, wonderful, and stupendous, and the question always was, ‘How does he do it?’ That is what everyone wants to know, therefore let everyone see him, and try to find out. He is undoubtedly the pride of wonder-makers, and wherever he goes in Australasia, those who revel in masterful illusions should not fail to get his track. This is not a criticism of his performance. It needs none. The man who was seated next to the writer, and witnessed everything with wide-eyed astonishment, as soon as lie got his breath after the transformation of the Phantom Princess, exclaimed ‘My word it was a bonser performance, ’ which is characteristically Australian and quite true. ” Mr Jansen will positively appear in the Opera House, Marton, on Saturday, December 4th, and will bring with him ail the latest conceptions of a mastermagician’s brain, together with a complete company of American vaudeville artists, including Miss Edna Herr. Madame Leona is supposed to possess some supernatural power, which she bi'ings into evidence when answering correctly the most difficult and perplexing of questions. Nothing can baffle her, no question is too difficult for her to answer correctly. She does not resort to stupid methods of crystalgazing or supposed hypnotic influence; she just answers each question as rationally as they are given her. Also supporting Mr Jansen is Mr Les. A. Bares, one of the cleverest of America’s comedians, and is •styled us “A somewhat different comedian,” and will appear in an original travesty of his own, entitled “Si me Seng and Some Tala.” Miss Ada. Montague "‘La potito” is a charming Continental danseuso, whun Mr Jan sou has specially engaged tu portray the art and poetry of motion in a series of dances, as performed by her on the Continent, Loudon and America. The box plan is ut Aloe ridge's, whore scats may be reserved without any extra charge, ami we adviso all those who desire to sen this groat performance to book their seats early, and thereby save themselves being crushed ut the ticket boxes. Country residents, mailing four shillings to the box office will have their scats reserved.
