RAILWAYMEN DISAGREE.

At a large representative meeting cf the Canterbury Branch of the New ; Zealand Locomotive Enginedrivers’, Firemen’s and Gleaners’ Association, the following resolutions were carried unanimously regarding the statement of the president and the secretary of the A. S. R. S. : “After listening to the explanations of the officers of our union, this branch strongly resents the action of the president and secretary of the A. S. R. S. giving utterance to such alleged misleading statements regarding interviewing the Minister of Railways in regard to granting increases to tho firemen. , “Such misleading statements deserve to he strongly resented ■by every unionist in New. Zealand as being circulated for. the. express,purpose of trying to aruse discord in the ranks of a highly organised and successful union. •' • “This branch also desires to convey to their Council the entire confidence of the officers of their union and to thank them heartily for their best efforts in securing improved wages for cleaners, firemen and drivers.” It was explained by the, officers that the statements made regarding the increases to firemen and the action of themselves before the Minister in regard to the same were absolutely without foundation, and the officers challenged the president and secretary of the A. S. R. S. to prove their statements. jw.
