PLUMBERS’ AWARD.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, October 16. After a lengthy sitting of the Conciliation Council, Mr Triggs presiding, a settlement was effected in the plumbers’ dispute. The hours v nf work are 47, and the minimum rate of wages of journeyman plumber or gasiitter is Is per hour. The preference clause, which is unusual, states that if any employer shall hereafter engage any worker who shall not be a member of the Union, or who within one week after his engagement shall not become and remain a member of the Union, the employer shall dis--miss such worker if requested to do so by the Union, provided there is then a member of the Union equally qualified tb perform the particular work required to be done and ready aud willing to undertake the same.
