LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Per Press Association. Wellington, October 10. The Council met at ‘I.OO. The Council resumed the debate on the Public Service and Local Authorities Superannuation Amendment'Bills which were both reported with amendments, and discussion was postponed. The second reading of the Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill was movedby the Hon. Mr Bell, who said the measure provided for the reduction from ten to seven years of tne period of confinement in a lunatic asylum necessary as a cause for divorce. Another amendment was for the legalising of the marriage again of either party as soon as a decree absolute is granted. He remarked that many people did not realise that it had been necessary to wait three mouths after the granting of a decree absolute before a divorced party would again marry. The Bill was read a second time, as also was the Wanganui River Trust, and the Hauraki Plains amendment Bills. The Council adjourned at 10.55.
