LABOUR TROUBLES.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received October 11, 10 a.m. Sydney, October 11.
The Industrial Court has given judgment in the dispute between the waterside workers and the North Coast Steamship Company whether the company |has power to employ seamen in conjunction with wharf labourers in the holds of vessels. It finds that members of the union by virtue of the preference clause of the award had first call on all interstate coastal vessels, but if they failed to provide sufficient labour the employers were entitled to employ constant hands or non-union labour. It calls upon the union to withdraw the refusal to work cargo of the company, failing which others must be allowed to do it. THE REEFTON TROUBLE. Reefton, October 11. Five free labourers coming by last night’s train were met by Union officials at Stillwater and induced to join the Union. They stated they had engaged to work at 12s to 15s per day in the Keep-it-Dark Mine. The Union is now standing by the men.
