The Appeal Court, consisting of Sir Robert Stout, Sir Joshua Williams and Justices Edwards, Cooper and Chapman sat this morning to hear an application by Wellington District Law Society for an order to strike John G. O Stevens, of Otaki, off the roll of solicitors upon the ground of unprofessional oondnct In respect to the following:—On 24feh October, 1910, while acting ostensibly for a native woman, but really in the interests of one S. East, he applied to the Public Trustee for a loan to the native cf £IOOO upon the security of certain land belonging to her, representing that the money was required for the purpose of improving the land By means of snob representation Stevens induced the Pnblio Trnstee to grant the loan, whereas the money was intended for the purchase of a share in an invention for indicating the position of sonkea vessels in which Stevens ana others were interested. It is also alleged that Stevens induced the native to pay £BOO out of the’ loan for a share in the patent. The case is proceeding.
