MARTON v. OLD IDENTITIES
Football started in real earnest at Marton yesterday. Those who are to constitute Marton seniors were all present and the form displayed gave good promise of the Olab having a successful season. A fairly strong team, chiefly made up of old identities were pitted against them and a good even game resulted. Those who have seen their best football days had to submit to defeat against the younger and faster players But the margin of defeat—l2 points to o clearly indicated that the old identities had not lost the tricks of the game. Among those who were conspicuous for good solid play were A. Ross, P. O’Leary, J. Broad and P. Ryan. The latter put in some particularly good dribbling work and his weight and pace made presence felt. The try he scored for old identities was the result of a good dribbling rush, and he added the major points by kicking a neat goal. Four tries were obtained by the Marton Club, bat kicking was faulty and no goals resulted. Mr A, Hunt refereed satisfactorily.
The team to represent Sandou district Football Olub against Foxton on baturday will be picked from the following ;—A. George, A. Hartley, U. Bishop, J. Sanson, J. Oronoher, W. Peacock, B MoNae, M. Read, A. Tapp, T. Richardson, H. Farg, M. Foster, S. Burgess, T. Burgess, A. Garter, J. Franklin, A. Beckman, M. Stiokbury, J. Rowe, IF, Boyle, W. Anderson. Flayers who cannot attend are requested to notify the secretary.
