OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held yesterday There were present— Ois. Wheeler (Chairman), Redmayue, Burrell, Reid, Rowling and Ylncent. CORRESPONDENCE. Prom Or. H. Reduiayne, asking for leave of absence as he wishes to take a short visit to England.—Leave granted. From Wm, Oorry, re Champion’s road, stating he had prepared plans for dedication. From Valuation Department, stating that they had sent to the Treasury a voucher for „the payment of £B7O, advance on account of subsidy due to this Council under section 9 of “The Appropriation Act, 1909.” Prom Treasury, stating that the Order-in-Oonnoil validating the irregularity in the procedure adopted to raise the further loan of £545 for the construction of roads in the Hiwinui and.Otangaki Ridings will he gazetted in the current Issue of the New Zealand Gazette; and also stating that as no money had been paid over on account of the loan the Minister is debarred by section 73 of the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909, from granting any loan to a local authortiy under part 11. of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act. 1908, so that the payment must be made under the new Act. which will necessitate the Council applying a # reab under the Act to the Superintendent of the New Zealand State Guarantee Advances Office, who will submit it for the consideration of the Board at its next proposed meeting to be held|on the 25th inst. From warding statement of cost of revision of Roll for the Oroua County. Prom W. B. Duthie, re connection to water supply at Bnnnythorpe. Prom Secretary Ashhurat Brass Band, asking for a grant of £lO for the purpose of repairing the band rotunda at Ashhurst. —£5 granted. Prom A. Harding, asking Council to lower the grade of the cutting near hia gate, and offering to contribute something towards the cost or undertaking to do tire work himself at price fixed upon. Prom Public Works Department, re the payment of the balance of subsidy due in connection with the construction of Gorge bridge, stating that the matter hart been referred to the Minister for approval who referred it to Cabinet for decision, bat up to the present it had not been dealt with, and stating shat as soon as it was dealt with a voucher would be passed for payment and that the Council would receive it within a week afterwards. Prom D. H. Guthrie, M.P., enclosing copy of letter received from the Minister of Railways, re dedication of land at Aorangi for road purPOS6S. j ■asm) REPORTS. The County Engineer, Mr Roy L. Harding, reported as follows: Mangaone Riding.—l met Mr MoBlroy and inspected the hill on the Feilding-Haloombe road near the junction of the Te Rakihou road. This hill badly requires regrading, as owing to the sharp turn on the steep grade it is almost the worst on this road. To regrade this bill and widen the roadway making grade about one in fifteen, and roadway about 20 feet wide would cost about £45. To renew the old culvert as the foot of the'(hill and .regrade both this hill and the one just across the golly would cost: Excavation £45, gravelling £2O, 25ft. long culvert (concrete walls jarrah deck).£2s, total £9O Rangitawa Riding.—The contract for gravelling the Haloombe-Kaka-riki road has been commenced. The guard- fence on the Mangaone road between Cr. Redmayne’s residence and Halcombs requires repairing and lengthening for abont one chain. Raumanga Riding.—Contracts Nos. 1, 2 and 3 for gravelling Wilson’s Line, Waitnna road and Makino road respectively have been commenced. Makino Riding.—The contract for reforming and gravelling lower Makino road Is progressing satisfactorily; the gravelling has been completed and the formation should be completed in abont a week. The Contractor will commence gravelling the lower part of Kimholton road on Monday. tOne of the sharp turns near the top of the first hill on the Mangaone road could be considerably improved by widening the road by about eight or ten feet at this point. The cost of the work would be about £5. Taonui Riding.—The contract Ifor gravelling the Aorangi road has been commenced, but is proceeding very slowly. The contract for gravelling the Taonui road has been commenced and the contracts for gravelling the Peildiug-Bunnyfchorpa and PeildingAshnurat roads will be commenced next week. A four feet culvert on the Stony Creek road,: and a twelve inch one on Bnnnythorpe road collapsed during the last rains, so I have had pipes delivered and the work of putting them ih. is now proceeding. Hiwinui Riding —The contract for gravelling the various roads in Hiwinui Riding t was commenced yesterday. Otangaki Riding.—The contract for gravelling the Bunnytborpe-Ash-hnrst road has oeen completed.

It was resovled That £5 be voted towards improvements of buildings on the reserve opposite the Ashburst Post Office, provided that the Band contribute a like amount, Or. Vincent to have control of the matter. That Mr W. J. Nelli’s tender for dog collars be accepted. The following alterations were made in the rate roll:—T. P. Gibson to W. F. Viles, part eeotiono 17. Bowling, section 9, Manchester Block, 147 acres; Samuel Domett to P. F. Elliott, section 42, Linton Settlement, 1560 acres.
