COLONEL GORTON.
After long illness with long patience borne, Marlborough and the old home part of bis life Through ail this mortal world of toil and strife, He passed at length to that Diviner morn,
Where, pain and care and sorrow left behind, All round about him holds the gazing eyes The Vision that transcends these mortal skies, And hour by hour expands the heart and mind : And with his'frieuds and own folk Will abide The solemn memory of those lengthening days, When paused bis soul at the parting of the ways, And came the promised light at even tide? * To all of us that mystic light appear When borne unto the Verge we pass from here.
A PHASE |IN HIS CHARACTER
Keen as a soldier, m his business keen ; Prompt in obedience ; prompt too to command; Eager, alert, and live in ail his ways. He made straight for the aims before him seen, And knew what was to live laborious days And give his heart to all he took in band. A.Y.T. *Zachariah XIV, 7.
