Chief Detective Herbert reached the Bluff this morning w s th tile Dunedin ex-corporation official, McKenzie, who has been extradited from Perth. Mr P. P. White, registrar, furnishes the following vital statistics for Rangifcibei district. The first figures are for 1909, and those in brackets for 1908:—Marriages 41 (39), births 147 (141), deaths 33 (31). At the services yesterday in the Marton Presbyterian and Methodist Churches, sermons were preached by members of the Students’ Conference. Those taking part were : Messrs J. T. Lawton, M.A., H. R. Urqnhart, 8,A. , O. Stubbs, 8.A. , H. McLean, M.A., ,M. Sc., and Rev. A. T. Thompson, B.A. E.D. Crowded congregations in both churches were the order of the day. A small strike occurred to-day In connect job with Gisborne bread supply. Eleven drivers of delivery carts "for various firms refused to go out. The strike was mainly a protest .against having to work whilst the rest of the town was observing ; a hold lay. A number of carters loaded up their carts with bread, drew last week's wages, apd then I?fl the bakers, oasning difficulty ip distributing their loaves.
