SCHOOL COMMITTEES

TAIHAPE. The annual meeting of householders was held on Monday evening, aud more than the usual interest was taken ;in the proceedings. The chairman’s report detailed the year’s proceedings, the most important being that of raising the status to that of a High School, and also establishing the technical school, from both of which the reports were very encouraging. .Mr W. McLennan moved a hearty vote of thanks to the oatgoing committee, and also that their great services in the cause of education in the district be recorded on the minutes. This jjwas carried by acclamation. Thei ‘outgoing chairman returned thanks, and mentioned in doing.so the*great good feeling that had al«ays existed betwen tbe committee and the staff, and trusted that the new committee would continue the same harmonious relations. Mr Tarrant was elected chairman, and Mr Page secretary.^ Taihape now has the distinction of having a lady on the committee, and we have every confidence in believing that a lady may be equally successful on school committees as on any other, WAITUNA WEST. The following were elected Messrs F. O. Brookie, A. Cameron, O. Tapp, H. Webb, Sid Carter, H. Holland, and A. A, McDonell chairman. MANGAWEKA. The School Committee election created great excitement, between 80 and 100 householders being present. Thirteen nominations were received. The counting from the ballot-box read as follows Dr. Turnbull 69, 3. Moon €7, J. Johnston 65* J. Georgetfci 65, S. Dumbleton 62, Y. Grenside 60, J. Dawkins 50, P. Rhodes 40, G. Mills 31, H. Dr. Turnbull, the popular chairman of last year’s committee, was again re-elected with Mr J. Dawkins as secretary. Daring the reading o? the report on last year’s work, the Chairman made special reference to the good work djane by the late Mr R.
