THE REV. C. GRIFFEN.
The Rev. T; G. Carr provides ns with the following sketch of the career of the Rev. O. Griffon, who has been appointed by the recent Methodist Conference to Rangitikei, to succeed the Rev. T. G. Carr. Mr Griffeh is a native o* the Midlands, having been born at Oldbury. He became a,member of the Church in bis youth and a local preacher at the age of 18 and was appointed to the Rugby Circuit in 1874. After a three years residence at Headingley College, Leeds, he was sent to the Circuit of St. Mary’s, Bedford, where ho spent three happy years. He arrived in New Zealand in 1879, and for 30 years has done yeoman service in both Islands cf this Dominion. He is a quiet and thoughtful preacher and a careful and able organiser. In the Lawrence and Springston Circuits he had great snooesa. He is an enthusiast in foreign missious and was for a time Foreign MissionarySecretary. Ho comes to Marton from Gisborne, a most progressive district, where he has laboured with strenuous zeal. His sou and daughter have greatly distinguished themselves in scholastic pursuits. It will be remembered that very recentlv Miss Dora Griffen was drowned in the Gisborne swimming baths, and the bereaved parents will deserve a sympathetic reception when they arrive nest April to take charge of the Marten Circuit.
