MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting was hold las evening. Present : The Mayor (Dr, Sherman), Crj. McEldowuey, Lyon, HiPon, and H. Sutcliffe. , The special orders for consolidated loan of £12,000 and special rate on JE>IS,OOO loan were confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From F. O. Wilson, enclorsing an account, Messrs Abraham and Williams for grass seed used ou the Park last year.—Passed for payment. From same, in reference to a resolution of Council passed ou 30th October regulating ttso of Park lor tf fefret., Cr. McE'tdownoy objected to the tone of Mr Wilson’s letters and moved that the President of the club bo informed that they cannot deal with future correspondence from Mr F. C . Wilson unless couched in courteous language.—The letters under discussion to bo returned to the club, and the club to bo informal that the use of the ground was granted to them under the conditions referred to by Mr Wilson. From Survey Department in connection with tracings for .subdivisional and other purposes where laud abuts on a public street, and Mating that an officer cannot bo ?pa Td at present to attend to the work. It war? pointed out that in cases where lan'd is being brought under the Laud Transfer Act, notice will bo sent in the usual way where there is any encroachment on the street and a pencil tracing supplied.—Received. From D. R. Perry, offering to supply gravel and sand at 3s per bore,-“Accepted subject to material being approved by gas manager. From Health Inspector, stating that ho had yet had no opportunity of inspecting the lire brigade building. From W. W. Hedges, pointing out that the Martou Extension syndicate wore not the chief movers in regard to the petition before the last meetlug of Council.—Received. From Mnrton Extension Company, notifying that their engineer and Mr Sicely for the Council had made, amicable .arrangements in regard to works now on progress.—Received. The gas manager was|iustructed to call for tenders “for construction of a concrete tank for gas holder. Cr. Lyon moved lus notice of motion revoking the resolution passed by Council in connection with expenditure on the upkeep of Park. Or, Lyon stated too much money had been spent on the Park against the receipts. In 1000 the receipts wore £3 12s Cr. McEldowuey saw no objection to going into the question Ho poiuted out, however, that 'economics had been effected, and would second the motion pro forma. The chairman said originally the park was a howling wilderness, and ft was necessary to spend money ou improvements; The expenditure had now boon reduced by ono-balf. It was the duty of the Council to keep the 'Park in order. The money spent was really an asset, as improvements were necessary.

Lyeu, Hilton, and McEldownoy were appointed a subcommittee to consider the future management of the Park. It was decided to purchase a now lawn mower at a cost of £'■>. Cr. Hilton moved that steps be taken to raise a loan of ’£.loo for a lire brigade station, a bell tower and stand, fire alarm and other apparatus. The motion was seconde 1 by Or. McEldowncy.
