The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Wanganui, report having held a very successful clearing sale of stock, implements, etc., at Mr Charles Lee’s farm -at Fordell last Tuesday, 9th iust. Mr Lee’s well known reputation for high class sheep' and horses was sufficient attraction to draw a large and representative attendance of buyers, notwitstanding the boisterous nature of the weather. Very keen competition resulted in everything being sold under the hammer. The sheep were of exceptionally good quality, and made top prices throughout, notably the 4-tooth Lincoln ewes, which brought 30s 3d, 3 ilsd 4-tooth ewes 36s lOd, 4*tooth to f.m. ewes 33s 4d, ewe hoggets Iba, wether hoggets 14s lid, rams 36s each, draught horses ranged from £4l 10s,' £39 (3), £33, £3l, £3O 10s, £39, £33; unbroken fillies £lB 10s. foals £ll 10s each, hacks from £4 10s to £l3 10s, bacon pigs from £3 os to £3 11s 6d, the cattle consisted of a few cows, which sold at from £3 to £5 apiece, implements, etc., sold well.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Jreport for week ending July 13th as i follows ; At Aplti on Tuesday there was only a small yarding of shee pand cattle. Sheep were in good demand, and all wore sold with tire exception of one pen. gEwes in lamb, mixed ages, 13s 9d to 14s Id, lambs 13s to 14s 6d. Cows close to calving £3 7s 6d to £5 ss. At Feilding on Friday we had a good entry of sheep and an average yarding of cattle. Sheep were in good demand, and all lines were quitted under the hammer at prices in favour of the vendor. A firmer tone prevailed all round, particularly for good lambs, and good quality breeding ewes. Good steers sold well, but female stock were somewhat easier. Wether lambs 11s 6d to 13s 6d, ewe lambs 13s 2d to 14s lOd, small mixed woolly lambs 9s 7d, fat ewes 15s Bd, fat wethers and maiden ewes 30s 4d, forward wethers 10s 9d. 3 year steers £3 0s 6d, 3 year h 29b, “springing heifers £3 15s, s' ■; •• -vj'Viß to 38s, forward cows
Palmerston Wool, Skin, and Hide Sale. Dalgtey and Co., Ltd., report having held their opening sale of wool, shins, hides, tallow, etc., on Friday There was a good attendance of buyers and competition for all lots offered was keen. With the exception of three small lots, we sold the whole of 'our catalogue. Wool: Our opening under this head consisted mostly of crutchiugs, but we had no lines of superior quality. We quote cross inferior 6%d to 7}£d, medium to dead wool good Bd, locks and pieces from 3d to 4d, crutchiugs inferior to medium 4Wd to medium to good s}£d to 6d. Skins: Some fair lines of settlers’ skins were offered which realised good prices, inferior sorts were neglected. We qoute cross full wool 8d to quarter to half wool 7d to 7%d, good petls to 6%d, dead hoggets 4%d to 6%d, dead 6%d to 7d, woolly lambs shorn 7 lid, butchers part dry and green os 6d to 6s 3d. Hides: Market was somewhat weak on account of adverse reports from Australia. We quote cow 4%d to 4%d, light ox sJ£d, yearlings 4J£d, calf second 5%d to 6%d. Tallow : In tins to 24s 3d and also all other sundries realised good prices. Messrs Abraham and Williams report At our monthly sale held on Friday we offered a catalogue of 25 bales and 90 bags of wool, 1100 skins, 500 hides, 8 casks and 50 tins tallow, also a fair quantity of cowtails, bones, rabbit skins, etc. Wool and skins sold at rnilng rates but hides showed a drop of about 3td per lb. We quote. : Wool: Medium crossbred 8d to BUd, medium scrutchings 4m to dead 7d to locks 3j£d to 4%d. Skins: Dead 5%d to crossbred quarter wools 7%d to B%d, lambs to 7>4d, pelts 5%d to 6)4d, butchers’ part green 4s 6d, 5s 6s Bd, 7s Bd, and 7s lid, butcherss’ lambs 3s 3d to 6s. Hides: Calves 6}id to 6}<(d, yearlings 5%d, calves cut 3%d, slippy 2d to 3d, cut and slippy 2%d, ox hides 4>£d, to cows to sd, cows cut 3Jj£d to 4d, bulls 3>£d, horse hides 6s 3d to 10s 3d. Tallow: Casks medium quality 23s to 25s 3d, inferior 2s, tins 14s to 21s 6d. Sundries: Cow tails Is 2d, per dozen, rabbit skias 4d per lb.
