DUNEDIN DIPHTHERIA CASE.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, July 11. Mr Miller, cx-chairman of the Hospital Board, referring to the diphtheria case, says that the Dunedin Hospital is not meant for infectious diseases aud its by-laws do not allow of such patients beiug taken in. Dr. Ogstou points out that the Act makes provision tor a hospital, permanent or temporary. Tho hospital authorities might have liiredj a cottage. They did not inform him they were not acting on the order sent them, aud ho had no reason .to believe they were not. Before the amending of the 1903 conditions the Act to local bodies, town councils, etc. But now it applied to hospital Boards. In accordance therewith, ho had directed the Hospital Board to take in infections eases. They are the only local body in the Otago district who refuse to take an such cases. Moreover, Dr. Fulton never requested the Health Department to visit McPherson’s place. The house was to-day fumigated and the bedding destroyed.
