SHOP-LIFTING COMEDY.
The elements of comedy and tragedy were curiously mixed in the exposure in the Bronx Borough of ft clever shop-ilftiug scheme. Die thieves were tliree girls, aged respectively und 13 years and 7 months. The youngest of the trio was borrowed with a baby carriage for the occasion from a neighbour. She was trundled up and down m front of a shop by one of the older girls. ’The other one, as she coi iected articles from the counters, came out to the perambulator an d tucked them away under the baby s feet The game had been m operation about a week. But one day the baby, whose presence contributed so greatly to the scheme’s success, unconsciously brought exposure. inding the pile beneath her feet growing uncomfortably large, she began throwing the articles on to the pavement. This attracted a policeman’s attention and arrest followed.
