Assume that colonies will Lower Tariff.
Press Association. —Copyright,
London, July 9.
The officials of six Trade Uuiqns, associated with the Trade Unionist Tariff Reform Association, and claiming to represent thousands of trade unionists, have written to the press strongly dissenting from the Liberal and Labour Commoners’ manifesto, considering it principally significant owing to its anti-im-perialist tone, ultra parochial character and weakness of .argument. The letter declares that the signers of the manifesto are not identified with the staple manufacturing industries. The protesters deny that the colonies made threats or der mands, condemn the attempt to belittle tho importance of colonial trade, ' and express belief that prer fefenco would cause an immediate increase of ten per cent on tlie export trade, and give employment to 110,000. Tho letter deplores the sneers at the colonies’ disinterested attitude, remembering that they fought for us, and only wish to trade with us.
