Dunedin, June 24. * George Kidd Miller, a widower, who lived at Saddle Hill, died in bis house yes* terday. He complained of a cold when bo got up and decided not to go to church for fear of disturbing the people with hia cough. After breakfast he had a slight attack of vomiting, but was all right at 10.30. An hour later his son went ow the diningroom and found him dead m his chair.

Gibboeste, June 25. A man named James Gormisky has been committed to the hospital suffering from severe burns. He was asleep in his whare on a station at Whnrekopae, when it caught fire and he narrowly escaped with his life. Levin, June 25.

A shocking accident occurred about six last evening to P. W. Barrett, of the literary staff of the Mauawatu Parmer. The acetylene light would not bum and ho went into the yard to ascertain the cause. A noise was hoard which was thought to be merely his throwing a tin about but later he was found with the front part of his head and face smashed m and tho gasometer wrecked. He was smoking, which is supposed to have been the cause of tho explosion. Ho is still unconscious and there is little hope of his recovery. Mr R. Barrett is well known on this coast and in the Lower Wairarapa. Auckland, June 25. -9 News was received by the Manapouri to-day that H. ICytte, a resident of Nelson, aged 21, who signed on the steamer’s articles the day after leaving Suva for Auckland, dis* appeared next morning. It is prc r sumed ho was drowned. _
