MAIN TRUNK LINE.

Per Pi ess Association, Auckland, Juno 24. Mr Blow, Under-Secretary for Public, Works, has returned to Auckland after Visiting the construction works on the Main Trunk Railway. He states "that the distance from the railhead at Raurimn to that at Raugitaua is only 28 miles. The extension to Ohakuno will be started almost immediately, and in three mouths' time the gap between the rails will bo reduced to 23 miles. About Spetember or October a start will be made with the rail laying on the spiral, and the line will be carried right oh to the Makatote 'viaduct, which, Mr Blow estimates, will be finished by Christmas, leaving a gap of 12 miles. The contractors for this viaduct are also construting the, Mangaonui-Teauwao bridge, /and hope to finish both works by December or January. If they do so the railhead will be taken over these viaducts to Horopito, the distance left to be completed thfli being only four miles. Mr Blow says it is reasonable to suppose that the line will be finished by the end of 1908, when through trains will be running a distance of 42G miles, ! the mail train doing tho journey in 20 hours.
