I A disagreeable impression was - produced on those present by the : diseloiure iu !he course of the trial ; of torture, to which it appears the accused, persons were subjected by : the djigitai (officials) of the Kuva ; village administration at the time of the preliminary examination. They j poured kerosene over the back of one , of the prisoners, and then set alight ;to it. He showed the burns at the | trial. In the case of another prisoner the torture was- unmentionable. It , is held that the native administration ! were led away by an excesss of ; caution.
