OHINGAITI.
[From Our Own Correspondent, ] A pleasant gathering was hold in Mr Delaney's hall, Ohingaiti, on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Davison, who are leaving the district. A special interest was attached to the event, inasmuch as Mr Davison was the first permanent stationmaster at Ohingaiti, and had married during his term of office here tho youngest daughter of tho late Mr J. Ooyle, for many years a well known and highly respected figure in. the Rangitikei district. The hall was crowded with wellwishers from the whole district, and dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the morning. During the evening Mr Brooks, the oldest resident of Ohingaiti, on behalf of the settlers aud townspeople, presented Mr Davison with a purse of sovereigns and Mrs Davison with a beautifully chased silver hot water kettle and stand, as tokens of the esteem in which, they are held by all. Mr Davison, who before finally.leaving his office that ovening had been the recipient of a "case of handsome silver-mounted pipes from the railway employees, was quite overcome by this second proof of thee people's goodwill towards him and his wife. He suitably replied on behalf of Mrs Davison and himself. A feature of the evening was the beautiful rendering of their respective songs by Mrs Halkett and Mr Harlen. Several other singers contributed towards the pleasure of the evening. Refreshments in abundance were provided by the ladies of the district and were appreciated. Mr Davison, who has received well-, earned promotion, proceeds to Waitara ;this morning to take up his duties there. He carries, with him the good wishes of the residents of ' the district, where, during his term of four and a half years at this station, he has earned the respect of all : for the capable way in which he has Carried out his duties. .
