Per Press Association. Hokitika, June 9. During the last four days the Assessment Court has been engaged reviewing Government valuations of the county of Westland. A feature of the proceedings was the fact that in one riding the County Council entered 235 objectiors on tho ground th-t the valuation was too low, and except in two instances the objections were successful, and tho total valuation of the riding in question vain increased by about £27,500. The settlers showed a good deal of opposition, and attended in force. The proceedings excited a large amount of local interest. Mr Good, inspecting valuer, was present, and fought to sustain the local valuer's estimates, in opposition to tho efforts of the local body to have the values raised. The Council engaged outside and local exports to support its ease.
