COMMONWEALTH SHIPPING.
Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, May 3,
The Commonwealth Arbitration Court on the application ef the Merchant Servico Guild, granted a common rule relating to the shipping industry in respect of tho award made in December last year. The Judge said that as all interstate steamships competed more or less with interstate companies already bound by the award, and as the terms of the award were fairly upplicable to a large number of such steamships, he had decided to make its terms a common rule in respect of all ships trading between the 'States or on any voyage from the Commonwealth 'to ports outside Australia specified in the award, namely New Zealand, Caledonia, or Fiji group, which begins and ends within the Commonwealth. His Honor made provision that tho rule should not impose hardship on any owner who is able to produce satisfactory evidence that the award is not "fairly applicable to his ships or shipping business.
