THE WEATHER.
Per Press Association. Masteeton, May 2. Nearly six inches of rain has fallen in Mastorton during the past tivo clays. Floods still continue, and mail coaches are still unable to reach Mastorton. An attempt was made to bring mails to Mnsterton from CwrswclTss by pack horses, but owing to the state of the roads and rivers it was a failure. In tho Lower Valley a large area oi country is flooded. Stock had been removed to high country, before the flood came on.
Napier, May 2. Rain has ceased for the present, though the weather is still unsettled.
Reports from the country districts show that the water in the rivers is subsiding slowly in most places, and no serious trouble is anticipated unless a further heavy rainfall is experienced. Wellington, May 3.
So far the railways in tlie Wellington district have suffered little damage by the heavy rains of tho last few days, and no interruption in frallic is anticipated. Flood waters in tho Wairarapa arc receding. NTo damage of serious moment is reported, as settlers were warned and removed their stock to tho high levels. Several small bridges have boon washed away. Several parties of sportsmen near Wairarapa Lake were caught by tho rising waters and sought refuge on sand ridges.
