VANCOUVER SERVICE.
Per Press, Association,, Wellington, April 2G. “Wo have always been prepared to enter into any reasonable negotiations for the Vancouver service, that is subject to calling at a New Zealand port,” stated the Acting-Premier this afternoon, discussing the latest cable message. " That has always been the difficulty so far. There are two points, calling at New Zealand and a better class of steamer put on.” Mr Hall-Jones gave an opinion that the Sydney people were trying to get Sydney as a port of departure instead of Brisbane, and he was under the impression that they were endeavoring to bring in a bigger service. [ Melbourne, April 26. A deputation of Queensland Senators , interviewed the Postmaster and urged : consideration of ‘ Queensland’s claims in connection with arrangement of the Vancouver service. Hie Senators are apprehensive that the New Zealand Government’s proposal to join contract might result in the exclusion of Queensland as a port of call. Mr Chapman promised that Queensland’s claims will have complete consideration. He subsequently stated that the present negotiations have in view an improved service with a better class of boats. The Union Co. are building some now boats, but it is unlikely that fresh steamers will bo immediately run on the line if the contract is completed.
