Feilding Wool Sale
Messrs A. H. Atkinson and Co. report: —At our monthly sale on Thursday we offered 19 bales and 100 bags of wool, 1300 skins, 400 hides, 33 casks and 100 tins of tallow and usual sundries. There was an average attendance of buyers. Wool and skins were firm at last sale’s rates. Hides, in sympathy with outside markets, showed a decline of to b{d, with the exception of calf which sold well. Tallow was easier by £1 to £1 10s per ton. Quotations— Wool. Medium to 9%d, coarse S'‘fd to 5)%c1, cottcd, dingy and seedy 7d to 8,1 Al, lambs S)jyd, inferior and badly seeded od to B%d. dead to 9d, inferior 6d to M, pieces 4%d to 5%d, locks to 4%d, crntchiugs 5%d. Messrs Abraham and Williams held their monthly sale at Palmerston North on April 19th and report as follows:—We had a fair catalogue to offer, buyers, comprising 453 bales anti bags of wool, 1600 skins, 450 hides, and the usual quantities of bones, tallow, hair, etc. Competition for wool and skins was very keen, but hides were not in good demand owing to late cables from Sydney showing a considerable decline in prices there. Tallow in casks sold at prices equal to last mouth’s sale, and in tins the very good price of 21s per cwt. was realised. Dalgety and Co . Ltd., report on their usual weekly sale at Foilding on Friday as foiows :—There was a medium entry of sheep, all lots being sold at satisfactory prices by auction. 15s <kl, lambs to 10s 8;1. There was a fair entry of cattle; fat cows to £3 Is Gel, store cows £3 2s, 3-year heifers in calf £1 13s Cel, wcauers to £1 Is.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report that at their sale at Palmerston North on Thursday they had an average entry of sheep and cattle. Cattle consisted principally of grown .steers, and all lines but one were sold. Sheep were in good demand, and a total clearance was effected. Quotations; —Sheep : Cull lambs 4s, store lambs Ss 7d, medium lambs 9s 6d to 10s 4d, aged ewes in lamb 11s, store ewes 8s 2d, forward owes 12s. Cattle : 18-months heifers 20s to 24s Gd, woanors good 21s to 245, 2-year-old steers £3, 2)4 -year-old steers £8 5s to £3 11s, 8-ycar steers £4 3s Gd to £5 ss.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Fcilding, report for week ending 15)th April as follows :—Apiti, Wednesday: Good yarding of sheep and cattle came forward and a most satisfactory sale •resulted. Some pens of very good lambs brought good prices. All the sheep wore sold, wth the exception of one pen. There was a good demand for steers and fat and forward cows. An almost total clearance was effected. Quotation:: —Sheep: Mixed lambs 8s Bd, 30s Od, Us;' 13s 3d; cull lambs 7s oil, 7s 7d; mixed aged owes in lamb 12s lid, 2 and 4-tooth owes in lamb 15s Bd, s.m. owes in lamb 13s (Id, bis,' 3 and 4-toob wethers lss s)d, 2-tootlx wethers small 18s Bd. The demand for sheep Was good and a total clearance was effected. A keen enquiry for cattle existed and ■we were successful in placing all lines with the exception of one or two small pens.
