MERCER.

WAIKATO RIVER BOARD

The usual monthly meeting of the Waikato River Board was held at Mercer on Saturday last, the members present being Messrs A. G. C. Glass (chairman), S. P. Pendergrast, M. Gallery, and H. Dean, with Mr H J. TapUy (secretary). On the minutes of the last meeting being read, the Chairman, who had been absent from that meeting, raised objection to Messrs Matthews' and Tidd'sproperties being excluded from the Whangapae special rating area, as then agreed to.—lt was decided to rescind the motion regarding these properties and to held the matter over until further information was forthcoming It was agreed to transfer a cheque for £3BB 16s lOd from the Mangatawhiri account to the credit of the General account.

The New Zealand Railways wrote asking the Board to remove machinery on the wharf as early as possible.—it was resolved to write the Mercer Stationmaster thanking him for his courtesy in the past and stating that the Board would remove

the machinery further along in aocorlance with his suggestion. The Marine Department wrote asking for the removal of groynes placed at Kaitangata Point, stating that the groynes, as they were at present, were impeding traffic—The Overseer was instructed to inspect and report on the matter. Mr Ralph wrote re the cleaning of the Waahi creek.—The Overseer was instructed to attend to the matter.

The Firth Pumice Company applied for permission to erect a wharf at Wahi bank.—lt was decided to write stating that the Board had no objection to them erecting a wharf if the Marine Department consented. Plans are to be forwarded to the Board, which will submit them to the Department for its sanction. The Overseer reported that the dredge required overhauling in various places. The cost, he estimated, would be in the vicinity of £3O or £4o.—He was authorised to effect the necessary repairing as early as possible. It was resolved to call tenders for the sale of various wharves not used by the Board. Accounts amounting to £35 9s Id were passed for payment.
