Monthly Meeting,

At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Papakura Town Board held in the Board's office last Monday evening there were present Messrs S. M. Gillespie (chairman), P. Holt, W. B. Linstrom, W. Richardson, T. D. (Jampbell and T. H. Markwick, with the Olerk (Mr Harold Wilson).

EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES. The Prime Minister (the Bight Hon. W. F. Massey, M.P.) wrote acknowledging the Board's letter relative to the proposed extension of the Town Board boundaries and stated that he understood Mr Holt, on behalf of the Board, had interviewed the Minister of Internal Affairs in Wellington on the subject Mr Holt briefly reported on his visit, which the Board considered was very satisfactory.

WAH TOPHUS. With reference to the application by the Board that trophies shonld be allocated to Papakura after the war Major General Robin, Commandingthe New Zealand Military Forces, Wellington, wrote that when the allocation of trophies were made Papakura would not be overlooked, noxious WEEDS INSPECTOR. The Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Wellington, wrote that Mr Harold Wilson, the Board's Clerk, had been appointed Inspector of Noxious Weeds under the Noxious- Weeds Act 1908 and that such appointment had been dnly gazetted. The Chairman congratulated Mr Wilson on the appointment and humorously observed that Mr Wilson would soon have plenty to do as Inspector. PUBLIC OR PRIVATE PBOPEBTY ? - Mr £. D. McLennan waited on the Board with reference to a small triangular piece of land between McLennan's Road und the Great South Road. A portion of the road Mr McLennan explained had been fenced in by Mr Carr, who oocupled and claimed it, and he (Mr McLennan) asked that such fence should be removed. The Chairman reported that he had interviewed Mr Carr after having given instructions that the fence on the road should be removed and Mr Carr had objected to this b»iog done. The piece of land in question, said the Chairman, had been a road for a number of years. Mr McLennan pointed out that when the railway line came through it became necessary to cut off the corner so as to make the crossing where it was now. Mr McLennan urged that Mi 1 Carr had no legal right to the road. After some further consideration Mr Holt moved that Mr Carr should be notified that the road must not be fenced but that if the small triangular piece of land adjoining would be of use to him the Board would grant him the use of it. The motion was agreed to. Mr McLennan, in thanking the Board for their consideration, ex pressed the opinion that the Board's decision would obviate any future difficulty. ELLIOT STREET. Two tenders for the work to Elliot Street were received and after considering these the tender (£300) of Mr CI. Thompson (Manurewa) was accepted.—Mr Richardson remarked that the work was an urgent necessity.

BALANCE SHEET. The Balance Sheet for the year ended the 31st March last was submitted by the Clerk and in moving i's approval the Chairman congratulated the Olerk on the way in which it was presented. He throught it would also be considered highly satisfactory by the ratepayers. Mr Holt, supporting the Chairman's remarks, also regarded the statement presented as being very clear and satisfactory. Fortunately, said Mr Holt, there was no interest to pay on any overdraft.

Mr Campbell's protest. In connection with the recommendation of the Finance Committee thut certain payments should be made Mr Campbell strongly obj cted to an account of £l2 6s 6d payable to Mr G. R Hosking in connection with the liabilities of Mr Hawkins, as ihe late Sanitary Contractor, which the Board had taken over with the leaee of the land. Mr Campbell contended that the Board should never pay another man's debts and mentioned that the whole quf-s'iiin would probably be brought htifore the Auditor.

Payment was approvod. MEETING ADJOURNED. The meeting subsequently adj lurned until next Monday evening at 7 30 p m ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £ll3 2s were passed for payment.
