ALFRISTON.
Some 250 children and parents assembled'on Christmas Eve at the Papakura Valley Hall for a Christmas Tree and Festival. It was a very fine gathering and no trouble was spared to make the evening pleasant and memorable to all. An improvised chimney was erected on the stage, and Mr G. Mclnness, as Father Christmas in time-honoured fashion, Emerged from the chimney with white flowing robes and whiskers, giviving presents to every child. Guessing competitions for a watch and beautifully-dressed bridal doll were won by Kenneth Short and Gladys Arnold respectively. The parents and children entered heartily into games. The parents' admission money was handed over to the Belgian Fund. Great credit is due to Mr and Mrs Harry Chandler for their untiring exertions in arranging the whole affair.
Mr Harry Moody, clerk to the Papakura Road Board and a well respected local farmer, has been confined to his room for several weeks with congestion of the lungs. We are pleased to report that ho is improving and the New Year should see him about again. The severe rains of this aud last week have done much damage to the hay crops, many hundreds of acres having been cut just prior to the deluge.
