Mr and Mrs Woods were accordingly joyfully and startlingly surprised when on the 13th inst. they received from their son a letter written from "Somewhere in France" and bearing the date of October 15th (exactly a month later than the reported date of his death) stating that at tha time of writing no was well and had without receiving injury taken part ia the advance of September 15th. The Minister of Defence was promptly wired to and was asked to take steps to corroborate the good news, and a reply was received that a cablegram had been despatched to the military authorities at the front. It was, however, cot until yesterday that Mr and Mrs Woods' natural anxiety was relieved by the joyful intimation contained in a telegram received from the Minister, as follows: "Pleased to advise you further cable received today reports your son 23465 Thomas G. Woods previously reported killed in action now reported fit and well and with unit. Death incorrectly reported by his unit. Error regretted. (Signed). J. Allen, Minister of Defence."
