We held our usual monthly sale in the Waiuku yards on Saturday, September 4tb, and had a record entry, every pen and yard being utilised. There was a large attendance and practically evertbing sold. Dairy cattle, of which there were 138 offered, made from £ll to £l4 10s; second grade cows, £7 10s to £9 10a; aged and inferior, £3 10s to £5 10s; empty cow?, £3 IDs to £7 10s, hecording to age and condition; fat steers, £l3 to £l6 2s 6d; lat cows and heifers, £7 to £l2; forward-conditioned three to tour-year-old steers, £9 16s to £l2; yearling to 18-months steers, £3 7s to £5 Ib, veailing to 18month heifers, £2 5a to £3 ss; gcod calves, £1 17s to £2 10s; smaller 18a to £1 13a; bulls, £5 6s to £ll 10b; young pigs, 10a to 15s; slips, £1 2s; small porkers, £1 10s.
On Wednesday, September Bth, at our usual weekly WestiielJ fat stock market, our entry of beef totalled 416 head, comprising 306 steers, 98 cows and heifers, and 12 bulls. The quality of the steers, on the whole, was excellent There was a steady demand throughout, and values remain firm. Choice ox to £2 6s, prime £2 3s to £2 6s, ordinary £l 18s to £2 per 1001b; cows and heifers, £1 15a to £2 4s; steers ranged in price from £lO 10s to £26 7s 6d; cows and heifers, £6 10s to £l4. Tbe highest averages included 15 steers from Mrs E. M. Reed, Otaua, £18; 8 from Ur B. Reed, Waeernga, £l7 13s 9d; 8 from Mr James Muir, Waerenga, £l7 8s 3d; 8 from Mr C. U. Robertson, Otaua, £l6 15s; 8 from Mr W. W. Wright, Otaua, £l6 10s; 15 from Mr Charles Bischoff, Otaua, £l6 0a 4d. Sheep came forward in full numbers, and included several lines of unfinished sheep. The demand was less keen than at recent sales and, generally, values were slightly easier. Extra heavy prime wethers £1 18s 6d to £2, heavy prime £1 15s to £1 17s 9d, medium to heavy, £1 12s to £1 14s 6d, light and unfinished £1 7s to £1 lis. 9d; extra heavy prime ewes £1 17s to £2 Os 6d, 32 extra special ewes from Mr George Coxhead, Manurewa, averaged £2 5s 7d, good prime ewes £1 lis to £1 15s, others £1 5s to £1 10s; best hoggets £1 7s t) £1 10s, others £1 Is to £1 ss; a few pens cf shorn wethers, £1 2s to £1 6s 3d, and 70 choice shorn hoggets frjm Mr A. D. McCardle made from 19s 6d to £1 3s 6d—1698 sold. Three spring lambs, the first of the season, from Mr George Proude, Bombay, made £1 2s each.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report: On Monday, at Papakura, we held a special dairy sale, when more than the advertised number came foward, and a good sale is reported. Best dairy cows, sold at from £8 to £l3 10s; best heifers, £7 to £lO ss, other cows £4 15s to £6 15s, other heifers £4 10s to £6 ss; aged and inferior cows, £1 15s to £3 10s. -263 soil. Bulls, £5 10s to £ls 10s.
On Tuesday, at Papakura, we bad an'extra large yarding, and we report a good sale, 1560 head being penned, and with very few exceptions everything changed hands Competition for grown cattle, in fresh condition, was very keen, but 2J-year to 3-year-old steers in backward condition showed a slight decline on late rates. Steers, forward, 3J-years to 4£-year-old, sold at from £lO 10s to £l4 6s; 2 to 3year steers, £7 10s to £9 15s; yearlings to 2 year old, £4 10s to £7 ss; steer calves, £2 5s to £3 17s 6d; heifers and cows, ii fresh condition, £5 5s to £6 8s; yearling to 2 year heifers, £2 15s to £5; calves, mixed, £1 8s to £2; bulls, £6 10s to £lO 10s; beef, extra keen competition, sold at '•' ''y Westfield prices: cows, up u ~i4 ss; steers, lightweights, £lO to £l4 15s.
