PATUMAHOE.
Ihe members of the Auckland Board of Education, viz., Mr J. G. Gatland, chairman, and Messrs Murray, Barriball and Mackenzie, whilst on their annual tour of inspection of the public schools last week, made a (special visit to Patumahoe school and were met by the locil Committee, who showed them over the grounds and building, after which the children presented the members with buttonholes. The visitors unanimously egreed tbat the school was not what it should be and could not understand why the Inspector bad not reported the unsatisfactory state of affairs before. They decided to have great alterations made during the Christmas holidays. After the inspection the local committee entertained the members to luncheon at Mr T. Bailey's Hotel, wheuce they proceeded by motor to Pukekohe, en route for Auckland.
The usual munthly euchre social iu connection with thd Farmers' Union was held iu the local hall last week, and being a nice moonlight night there was a good attendance. Some very keen contests were indulged in for the first prizes. The winner of the lady's trophy was Miss Hamilton, of Drury. For the men's prize no less than four tied with ten games each, and in the play-off Mr N. Cotter was successful. Consolation prizes were given to Miss Knight and Mr G. Howard. The social was in charge of Mr J. B. Goldsworthy, who carried out his duties in his usual good style, the ladies kindly providing the refreshments.
