DRAINAGE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Aka Aka Drainage Board was held on Saturday, 14th inst., when the followitig members veie present—Meaora G. Hull (chairma.i), E. Bent, R. Hudson, Walters and the clerk, W, J. King. Mr Hudson reported that Spencer's drain was now thoroughly cleared. Mr Walters reported that Mr Batchelor would employ labour and do the necessary work in ihe Western drain.

The secretary presented draft circulars regarding drainage rating which were approved, and instructions were given to have same printed. River Board Matters.-Mr H. E R. L. Wily forwarded a batch of correspondence from the Minister of Lands concerning this question.— Received. Piping Eastern Drain—i'he Pukekohe West Road Board wrote adverse to assisting with this work.— Ihe clerk stated that he had written referring the Board to a letter they had written in April, 1907, agreeing to do the piping required.—The clerk's action was approved. Eastern Drain.—Mr H. E. K. L. Wily wrote complaining of thi bad state of the upper portion of the Eastern drain, and alleging grossly unfair treatment. He stated that the properties of Messrs Massey, Shipherd and his own had been flooded for months last winter, owing to neglect of this matter. —A r;ply was sent stating that prior to receiving the letter, work was Deing done on this portion of the drain.—Mr Bent was appointed to look into the matter. Mawhitiwhiti Drain. Mr Hull stated that he had visited the work being done here by Messrs Powell and Kumiss, an.i stated that he did not consider tha work was being completed according to specifications, it being fully 18 inches short of the required width, viz., 14 feet.—After considerable discussion it was agreed to pay £SO piogress payment on account of the proximity of Christmas, but to notify the contractors that the top measurement must be made to l 4 feet, according to tha signed plans and specifications. Ihe clerk presented the monthly statement of accounts, which showed a debit t-alanca on the general account of £4O 0s 9d, but it was explained that all the present year's rates had yet to come in. The system adopted by Mr W. J. King of presenting a full statement of receipt*, assets and liabilities at each monthly meeting should commend itself to all local bodies, as by this means the exact state of the Board's finance is seen at a glance.
